The final debate before to the Texas and Ohio primaries took place Tuesday night between Senator Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton. The two candidates battled about who has the best health-care plan, who would act more aggressively to rethink the trade policy once the position of president is filled, and who has been right about the war in Iraq. The debate was held at Cleveland State University. This primary is particularly important to Clinton considering that she has lost every contest since the Super Tuesday primaries. Former president, Bill Clinton mentioned that in order to keep Hilary Clinton’s campaign afloat, it was vital to win the states of Ohio and Texas.
This story is important because it has timeliness in the fact that the primaries are happening right now. It has an extreme amount of prominence because it has to do with the future of our country. Also, this story has a large human interest because it impacts the American people as a whole (The Washington Post, 2/27/08, p.A1).
My favorite article was the “Dark Victory at the Oscars.” I have heard a lot about “No Country for Old Men” and it was exciting to hear that it received Best Picture. Also, it was interesting to hear that the Europeans, with a clean sweep, took every acting prize of the night. According to The Washington Post, “It was the second time in Academy history, and the first time since 1965, that non-Americans swept the four acting categories” (2-25-08, p.A1). I have always been a movie fan so it’s always nice to hear which movies get rewarded for their hard work (The Washington Post 2/25 p. A1).
The U.S. is beginning to increase the number of immigrant criminals to be deported (The Washington Post, 2-27-08, p.A1). The U.S. Navy destroyed a potentially dangerous spy satellite falling into the Earth’s atmosphere, Wednesday, destroying 1,000 pounds of toxic chemicals (The Washington Post, 2/22/08, A01). A large number of “dark films” won at the Oscars on Monday (Washington Post, 2/25/08, p. A1). Over 50 million employees were granted by the Supreme Court the right to a trial for the unjust theft of their 401 (k) retirement funds (Washington Post, 2/21/08, p. A1).
