Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton went head-to-head Thursday during a heated debate about their plans on achieving universal health care, which is most ready to serve as commander in cheif and who can best change the country. The debate began with Obama answering the first question followed by him talking about his life as a child of a single mother, further insinuating that he is the front-runner for the party's nomination. Clinton used her husband's affair with a White House intern and his impeachment in contrast to Sen. Obama, suggesting that what she went through is in no comparison to ordinary Americans.
The debate was the first of two before the March 4 primaries which is very important for Senator Clinton to win in order to overcome Obama's success since Super Tuesday. They are two strong candidates with much support from voters along with friends and family. Because both are passionate and serious about becoming the countrys next president, voters are placed in a critical situation which will affect the lives of many. The news element timeliness is factored into this story because the debate occured a week before Texas and Ohio primaries are won over by either candidate. Along with the elements: impact and human interest being the most obvious in the story, it is very important for people in America to remain updated on the candidates even if they are not registered to vote. Internet relationships and online dating services have become very popular in countries besides the United States. In India, most couples come from having met on matrimonial Web sites and are picking out gowns and sending invitations within weeks. This article discussed one man in particular who was investigated by a hired wedding detective to seek the truth about him. On his online profile, he displayed himself as being eager in becoming a good spouse, successful, and a stay-at-home type of guy who never drinks. The detective discovered that was in fact having an affair with his housemaid, drinks heavily and could be prone to violence. I found this article to be quite interesting because I know that online dating services can be dangerous and it amuses me to see that hiring a wedding detective has become a common premuptial ritual in India. The elements of impact and service are shown in this story because it is written proof that online relationships are risky and not 100 percent. It can also serve as a wake up call for those who watch the dating service commercials and consider going through the process. I am not aware if people in America hire wedding detectives but I am sure after reading this article, it might be taken into consideration. (Washington Post, 2/23/08, p.A01)
