It's that time again. London is in-stored for a race amongst Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson for mayor. Both Tony Blair and Alastair Campbell have become advisors to Livingstone during his campaign for a re-election as mayor. New Labour's pollster and focus group adviser, Philip Gould also gives advice to Livingstone. Blair described Livingstone as a man who can transcend traditional politics. Tess Jowell, Olympic minister says that with the advice from Gould and Campbell, Livingstone has a good chance of winning the election.
Proximity and human interest are some keys element in this article. Becoming a city's mayor takes on a lot of responisbility, so London must be aware of who is running and who supports them. With this, London can make a critical decision that would affect them as a whole. There are about a million children at 8,000 schools who will not have the pleasure of going to school because of a teachers strike. Since labour came to power, many have had complaints of pay rates for the teachers. Many headteachers and teaching assistants were forced to take the place of the striking teachers, causing one in six schools to close. Over 100,000 civil servants- from driving test supervisors to coastguards- and 300,000 college lectures are taking part of the strike. The National Union of Teachers are being accused of jopardising children's education and teachers' reputations. The economy will suffer greatly as millions of pounds will be lost due to the lost working days, especially for parents who are forced to take off.
