David Miller, Toronto's Mayor has stretched his campaign to ban handguns over to the Internet, asking people all across Canada to sign an online petition. After many family and friends expressed grief of losing loved ones to gun violence before an executive committee on monday, Miller aired a video on YouTube and the city's website displaying eager pleas for action.

Human Interest as well as service are two news elements featured in this article. Gun violence is a very serious issue that should not be taken lightly. It is something that Toronto should take into consideration because it has affected many families. Many crimes can be committed with the usage of guns, so with the awareness of the Mayor's initiation to ban handguns, Toronto will be doing a great service to its community. Having access to sign a petition on the Internet is one step closer to a safer environment. (TheStar, 4/8/08)

As applied to the baseball rule- three-strikes-your-out, the city of Brampton has also made it a rule when it comes to parking offenders. Effective immediately, cars that have been ticketed three times for illegal parking in a two month time span, will get automatically towed at the owner's expense. Last year, 30 cars were ticketed more than 20 times each, and an additional 330 cars were tagged for parking violations 10 times or more. A $25 fine is ticketed for illegal parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. There is also a $100 fine for those who park in a no parking zone. I found this article to be interesting because I thought it funny a law was passed based on a rule of baseball. Human Interest and service are elements also displayed in this article because it gives awareness to all the car owners in the Brampton area. No one wants to have their car towed or pay $100 fines, so this will definitely open the eyes for car owners to be a lot more cautious to where they want to park their cars.
