The local TTC of Toronto, Canada has been on strike for weeks now, but as the new week approached, the workers believed it was time to take a break from the strike to aide their city and state. Toronto transit workers say they will not walk off their jobs in the next few days. With employees on strike, they want "negotiated contract settlement." There will continue to be a "slowdown" in the mass transit until their negotiations are made, but for the week the strike is at a pause.
This story has human interest most definitely. Any citizen of a town or city with or without public transit knows how important it is, especially in the past few years with high spikes in gas and oil prices around the world. With any kind of strike on a corporation, there is a drama factor. How long will the strike last? What will the long term/short term consequences be? These are just some of the questions that many are asking themselves about what's happening in mass transit. The story also has a lot of impact, without the transit, people can't get anywhere. Whether it be, work, school, or any other place of importance, without this service that the city offers, people's lives are also at a standstill.
In nearby Nova Scotia, the ban on plastic bags is having impact on nearby Toronto. With all the issues with the environment and waste friendly disposables, Toronto has been thinking of taking steps towards getting rid of plastic bags in places such as common liquor stores around Toronto. "I think we should give that some real consideration," said Premier Dalton McGunity. The story has human impact on how people shop and protect the environment. It has impact of the environment since that's what the story mainly focuses on. It has oddity. You wouldn't think that such a small thing like a shopping bag change could dramatically help the environment. Service is something else the story has to offer. It is doing the citizens of Toronto a great service by trying to protect their environment.
