Gov. Eliot Spitzer was accused Monday of having relations with a high-priced prostitute. Once the news was released, there was question whether or not he was going to step down. A news conference was held so that Gov. Spitzer could apologize to his family and state of New York. Spitzer as remorseful as he could, said that he failed and disappointed his state and is now planning on regaining the trust of his family. Spitzer did not mention if he was going to resign or not.
The night before Valentine’s Day, Spitzer was caught on tape and paid $4,300 in cash to have sex with a "petite, pretty brunette, 5-feet-5 inches, and 105 pounds," whose name was Kristen. (The Arizona Republic, 3/11/2008, p. )
I thought this article was the most important for the week since I’m a New Yorker and thankfully, The Arizona Republic thought it was important enough to put it in their paper located across the country too. This story has the element of time which is most important to this story since Eliot Spitzer is our current governor and this happened and has been happening all week. The proximity element isn’t necessarily there if you reside in Arizona because it might not effect you since he’s the governor of New York. For people living in New York though, the proximity element is there. The prominence element is there for New Yorkers but I doubt this will affect anyone in Arizona. The oddity element is definitely there considering this is not something you hear about everyday, especially from a person in such a high position. The element of conflict is in the story as well. His actions are causing problems with not only the state but with his family too.
The most interesting story of the week, in my opinion, was titled CDC study: 1 in 4 teen girls has a sexually transmitted disease. This story concludes that according to a new study, 1 in 4 teenage American girls has acquired a sexually transmitted disease. The element of prominence is there for me because this study applies to girls around my age. The element of proximity is in this article due to the fact the study was taken nation-wide.
