David Winchell-2/14

Barack Obama claimed victories in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia on Tuesday, adding states to his winning streak over Hillary Clinton. These recent victories have given the Democratic party some direction, while before it seemed as though the race was evenly split between Obama and Clinton. Obama has gained support from groups who had not been giving him their votes before, notably older voters, women and lower income people, all of whom were the core of Clinton's voters. Obama had dominant leads in all the areas, recieving 75 percent of the vote in the District of Columbia, 64 percent in Virginia and 60 percent in Maryland. At a rally, Obama did not call out Hillary Clinton by name, he merely saying that, "the cynics can no longer say our hope is false." Obama's campaign continues to gain momentun going into Texas and Wisconson.

I think this article is the most important because the election still has a stranglehold on many Americans, notably the race for the Democratic nomination. Reading about the Republican primaries does not seem to interest me, mainly due to the fact that McCain seems to have no competition. The Democratic race just seems to get more interesting as time passes, and I must say, as an Obama supporter it's good to see him take a strong lead over Clinton. This election can only get more interesting, and it will be fun to go along for the ride. (The New York Times 2-13 p. A1, p. A.21)

My favorite story of the week is that the writers strike has finally came to an end after 3 months of negotiations. The strike, which caused Hollywood to lose an estimated $3 billion, was caused over the fact that writers were making 4 cents for every $30 that was being sold. It's good to see the strike has finally endedand production can restart on everyones favorite television shows. However, with the looming actors strike in June, no one is sure how long this will last. (The New York Times 2-10 p.A20)
