Due to lackadaisical security in a private museum in Zurich, Switzerland, three men suspiciously wearing ski masks stole four 19th-century masterpieces in broad daylight. Switzerland is in complete shock that the museums security could be so weak and that this precious artwork disappeared into the hands of criminals. This robbery is said to be one of the biggest in all of Europe. Surprisingly, the act of theft took place at 5 P.M. on Sunday, when the museum closes. One of the three men pulled out a handgun scaring employees, while the other two men stole paintings off of the museum walls. Hopefully the citizens of Zurich, Switzerland now realize how essential security is.
One element of news that this story contains is Impact. This story does not affect me, but it affects the citizens of Switzerland greatly because they now have a lot of reason to be concerned over security. Human Interest is also an element of news in this story because as a society, we are unfortunately curious about stories pertaining to crime, suspense, and theft. Lastly, service is used in this story because the reader is becoming aware of what happened at that museum in Switzerland. The reader is informed about the details of the story. In my opinion, the best story of the week was learning about Barack Obama’s past drug use. Although friends say “Drugs played only a bit part for Obama,” it is clear that he experimented. It is comforting to know that our possible future president enjoyed getting high as a leisure activity with his friends. I am wondering if this is a tactic to gain younger voters attention, especially since the article was published by a Liberal newspaper as in “The New York Times.” It does not bother me at all that Obama was a typical, well grounded, and hardworking college student who occasionally enjoyed partying. I actually think that he is an honest person who comes across his past without fabricating what really happened.
…Senator Barack Obama gained control over Senator Hillary Clinton by winning states Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. (The New York Times, 2/13/08, p a1). .. Members of social networking site The Facebook will have difficulty removing themselves from use of the site. (The New York Times, 2/11/08, p c1) … A terror threat begins to increase greatly in Barcelona, Spain in a Pakistani neighborhood. (The New York Times, 2/10/08)…Friends discussed Senator Barack Obama’s college drug use. (The New York Times, 2/9/08)…As Mitt Romney redrew from the race for president in 2008, it seems that John McCain will be the nominee for the Republican Party. (The New York Times, 2/8/08).
