Barack Obama is on a winning streak and nothing seems to be stopping him. According to exit polls, he is now receiving votes from older people, women, and lower-income people, as well as his previous supporter groups consisting of blacks and the younger crowd. This past Tuesday, he won his eight consecutive Democratic nomination contest, impressing many with his strength of success. Most recently, he has acquired the support of states such as Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. With these results, it is safe to say that Barack Obama can breathe a little easier as he takes the lead in what seemed was going to be an ongoing battle between himself and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Over the weekend, two CBS television journalists were kidnapped while reporting in Basara, a southern city in Baghdad. This story caught my eye because it seems that quite often in opposing countries journalists are a common target. Being that we are studying journalism, I thought this story was very appealing because for anyone interested in this field of employment, it really makes you open your eyes and become aware of the dangers you may encounter. The story went on to say that not even two days ago another Iraqi journalist was found after being abducted in Baghdad. There are a few clues as to who might be responsible for these kidnappings, although nobody has a definite answer yet. The search for the journalists is still taking place. (The New York Times, 2/13/08, p. A8)

This was the second shooting in eight days reported by a Memphis high school. (The New York Times, 2/12/08, p. A18)
