On Tuesday, Febuary 5, 2008, in what was indicated as the biggest primary election in American history, 24 states, including New York, participated in the voting of the 2008 primary election. New York voted Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain as their top candidates in the long anticipated Super Tuesday primaries. Though Barack Obama has been gaining ground on Clinton, Clinton edged Obama, 48 percent to 40 percent, and pulled through as New York's top Democratic candidate. As for the Republicans, John McCain, with the support of former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, remains ahead of both Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee with 51 percent of the New York State vote. The 2008 election has been said to be the most important election in American history. Furthermore, this has been the laregest Super Tuesday in histry because many states, including Florida, who had usually waited until later in the year to have a primary, were involved in the voting this past Tuesday. These states rushed so that their votes would have a bigger impact on which candidate was to remain in the race for the Presidential election. What was also interesting to realize was that McCain won the Republican vote in New York. Many people thought Guiliani would win the Republican vote since everyone in New York adores him, but with Guiliani dropping out after not winning any major states, McCain became the center of attention, beating out his fellow Republicans by a wide margain. Although the race between Clinton and Obama still remains close, it is almost clear the McCain will win the Republican nomination for Presidency.
The New York Giants beating the undefeated New England Patriots in Sunday night's Super Bowl XLII was, in my opinion, the best story of the week. With a final score of 17-14, the unexpected win over the 18-0 Patriots proved the Giants' determination in the biggest game of the season. As a Giant's fan, I saw the struggle the team faced week to week of the regular season, but when it mattered most, lead by quarterback Eli Manning, they gave it their all and outplayed the Patriots, becoming the 2008 Super Bowl Champions.
