After the Super Tuesday elections took place, it seems as if the Republican's have solidified John McCain as their pick. McCain dominated contenders Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee across the country. Some say McCain's victory margin was so large due to the fact that those who dislike McCain were split down the middle, picking either Romney or Huckabee. The democrats however, have no solid lead as both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama seem neck in neck for their voters. While Clinton holds more delegates than the Illinois senator, Obama holds more states. Financially speaking however, Obama seems to have the upper hand, as Clinton dipped $5 million dollars into her own pocket to pay for her campaign. If there is no distinct winner once the total votes are counted, the battle between Obama and Clinton could stay heated all the way to the Democratic convention. While both Obama and Clinton have promising campaign obstacles in the coming weeks, this feud is likely to cause more stir as the weeks continue.
I found this article to be the most important of the week because this election is really proving to be an interesting one. While the Republicans have their clear cut pick in John McCain, I think it's interesting that the Democrats have two people that have the potential to make history. It will be interesting to see once a candidate is chosen, the American convention of an old rich white man versus either a white woman or a black man. This election is shaping out to be one of the most exciting in a long long time. (Newsday, 2/7/08, Page A7)
My personal favorite story of the week was the confirmation of Heath Ledger's death. Since I am big fan of movies, the entire controversey over his death has really taken me in. The fact that his death was accidental rather than suicide puts a new perspective on things. While not to make light of the situation at all, it's good to hear that he did not take his own life. Some say Ledger will become an icon of James Dean proportions, but only time will tell. (Newsday, 2/7/08, Page A10)
