New York votes Senator Hilary Clinton (Democratic) and Senator John McCain (Republican) as the top in their parties for the primaries of the 2008 election. It was a good win for Senator Hilary Clinton, who received 48 percent of the votes, as the race with Barack Obama has been showing to be a close one. On the Republican side, Senator John McCain has proved that he might have what it takes to win the Republican candidacy with 51 percent of the votes over Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee.
This story is important in many various ways. First, because of it’s historical relevance. For the first time, there are two minorities running for the presidency of the United States. With the race between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama being so tight, much attention has been drawn to these two conflicting figures. Along with the human interest aspect of this story, this story also has a great deal of proximity involved. This election will affect the future of our country thus impacting us personally. The timeliness is nearly perfect since the Super Tuesday primaries were just held this week. Lastly, the American people want to keep informed of the close run for presidency. This story, then, is a service to inform Americans of how the race going to conclude.
My personal favorite story of the week is the New York Giants’ defeat over the New England Patriots. As a packer fan, this Super Bowl was an upsetting one, but it was interesting to see a new team rise to the top (especially after their shaky start). Stories like these give hope to other struggling teams across the nation.
