Adrian Jones - 3/6/08

Senator Hillary Clinton is still in the running for the 2008 presidential election after her primary wins in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island. She appeared on early morning television shows from her winning states suggesting that she and Senator Barack Obama may share the Democratic ticket. She switched over the attention of her wins and focused on fundraising Tuesday, asking supporters to donate $3 million in 24 hours for an equal fight against Obama in Pennsylvania on April 22. Now that there are only 2,025 delegates left needed for nomination and Senator McCain will be the Republican nominee, both Clinton and Obama are neck-in-neck in the race for the Democratic nominee.

Proximity can not get stressed enough in these articles pertaining to Clinton and Obama. The presidential election is a very serious factor in our future as Americans. Whether Americans want an African American or a woman to be the next president, a decision has to be made!! Timeliness is significant as well, along with impact and human interest.

There was a follow up article I read about a William Floyd High School student who made up a flase story that she was sexually attacked on her way to school. Police said that she fabricated the story in January so that she wouldn't have to take a test she was not prepared for. This story reflects the element proximity because it affects the Mastic community. Many parents, students and civic leaders believe that this story just adds to the negative perception to what is supposed to be one of Suffolk County's blue-collar communities. Mastic is thought to be a horrible place but residents feel that it is not. There was a gathering outside the high school to announce plans of bulding a parking lot in the vacant area across the street where students cut class and serves as a refuge for homeless people and criminal activity. Police decided to drop charges against the girl and instead referred her to counseling.
