Surprisingly, Senator Hillary Clinton has made her way back in the race for the 2008 election. Since Barack Obama had been unstoppable with 11 previous victories, it was Clinton’s time to change up the pace with her crucial victory. For the Republican Party, John McCain finally clinched his spot, as expected. Clinton’s win has proved that the long battle between her and Obama may not come to a final decision until Pennsylvania on April 22. As the day began, many asked the question if Clinton lost Texas, would she have to drop out of the race? As the night went on, this question was put in the past as Clinton proved herself with victory. Hillary Clinton has made it very clear that she is still in this and will fight hard no matter how unstoppable Obama may be. With McCain clinched, it is clear that there is going to be a strong race for the Democratic nominee in the 2008 election.
One element of news that this story contains is proximity. Proximity is shown because whoever the Democratic nominee may be in the 2008 election, it is influencing people around the world, especially United States voters who are still indecisive about who they want. Another element of news that this story contains is human interest. Human interest is shown in this article because so many people are watching and reading about the battle between Obama and Clinton. Lastly, this story contains timeliness because it is happening now. Hillary Clinton stunned many with her victories (Newsday, 3/5/08, p. 12).
My personal favorite story of the week was reading about up-coming reality television show starring the Lohan family. The show, which will air on E! Is going to follow around Dina Lohan, Lindsay’s mother, and Ali Lohan, Lindsay’s sister. The show will begin shooting in two weeks in the Lohans’ hometown of Merrick, New York. It interesting to me as to why the producer of this show finds the Lohans’ life so interesting, especially without Lindsay even in the show. “Living Lohan,” the show’s title, is not one of the first reality television shows to appear in Long Island. Other shows included “Growing up Gotti,” “The Hamptons,” “One Ocean View,” and “Joey and Amy.” Since there have been various reality television shows based out of Long Island, maybe “Living Lohan” will keep this trend alive (Newsday, 3/5/08, p.a11).
