Senator Hilary Clinton has bounced back into the presidential race for 2008. With Barack Obama’s 11 primary winning streak, many democratic voters were skeptical as to whether Clinton would survive the race. Finally after 29 days of falling further and further behind, Ohio and Texas have come at a great time for Clinton. There were thoughts as to whether Clinton would still run if she had not won Ohio and Texas. This win has given Senator Hilary Clinton a good boost in the perfect direction for the 2008 election race.
This story has obvious proximity. The presidential election is important to everyone across the U.S. and affects everyone. Also, the timeliness has come at a great time for Clinton because she was quickly falling behind Barack Obama in this race for the 2008 election. There is also human interest and impact in this story because it greatly effects the outcome of our country leader (Newsday, 3/5/08, p. A4).
The story of the week, for me, was the devastating retirement announcement by Bret Favre. Favre has been an idol for many people for years. It has enormous proximity for me because I am from Green Bay and I have met Bret Favre. Also, it has impact on the team if the Green Bay Packers because they have lost one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. We will have to see if Aaron Rogers will be able to replace him (Newsday, 3/5/08, p. A52-53).
New York state declined Trump’s attempt to build a catering hall near Jones Beach (Newsday, 3/5/08, p. A7). Senator John McCain has won the spot for the Republican Party for the 2008 election (Newsday, 3/5/08, p. A4). The largest solitary gift given to a SUNY institution was given by a Long Island couple who donated $60 million to SUNY-Stony Brook (Newsday, 02/28/08, p.A3). The Lohan family will be having a new reality T.V. show coming up which is partially shot on Long Island (Newsday, 3/5/08, p.A11). A Long Island cab driver was praised for saving a young baby girl when, in fact, he was actually planning for a place to dump her (Newsday, 3/2/08, p. A7).
